We've Added AdSense

October 25, 2006 - Steve Rosenbaum
We've got more rev to share... now we're supporting AdSense rev share as well. Just put in your AdSense code, and we'll make sure that your ads play every other time we serve an ad.

We're pleased to report that Magnify's AdSense revenue sharing feature also allows you to specify an AdSense channel code in addition to your main AdSense account number.

This will let you track the revenue share from Magnify.net separately from your other AdSense revenue, or if you have more than one Magnify site you can distinguish between the revenue each generates.

Removing a clip from a Magnify site

October 21, 2006 - Simon Cavalletto
The ability to show content from other sites is part of the viral explosion of video on the Internet -- but what if your video has been posted to a Magnify site and you'd rather it wasn't?

It's important to understand that Magnify-powered sites provide embedded players or links to content which is hosted on multiple web sites, and visitors' browsers then display these independently-hosted videos in the context of Magnify web pages. Magnify does not copy, host, or serve those embedded videos, which are delivered by third parties under their own terms and licenses.

Given the rapid pace of change in this field, it's possible that some people will be surprised by this arrangement, or decide that they don't want their material shared as broadly as they at first agreed to. If you'd like a Magnify site to stop linking to or embedding your video, please feel free to contact the site administrator asking them to remove the post, or send us some email and we'll make sure it won't be published again: Notify (at) Magnify.net.

Syndication Versus Scraping

October 15, 2006 - Simon Cavalletto
Magnify syndicates videos from multiple locations, but we don't "steal" them. Typically we use the APIs or feeds each of the hosting sites provides in order to discover and embed links to the original video source.

Our goal is to use these emerging tools and widely accepted practices to facilitate video sharing and organizing. We think that your communities add value to videos by indexing, rating, and commenting on them.

For example, instead of "scraping" YouTube's web site and copying their files, we use their publicly-documented REST API to resolve user search queries and embed their standard video player. YouTube benefits from the additional traffic, which is why they've made those tools available.

The October NY Tech Meetup

It's once again that time of the month - the October NY Tech Meetup, again held at the NYU School of Medicine. As usual, the crowd was packed with an enthusiastic group of folks interested in learning about the city's best new tech companies and products. Interestingly enough, a large portion of the crowd was made up of first timers. Scott even wondered if he was losing folks. Well, your friendly neighborhood Netizens are still attending and as usual, we'd like to recap what we saw and thought of the event. So without further ado, here'sa quick summary of the presenters:

Magnify.net - Presented by Steve Rosenbaum, creator of MTV Unfiltered, Magnify.net is a site that allows for community powered video. Basically, the site allows users to create their own channels to categorize and rate content so that its easier to find video that's relevant to you. He entertained the audience with a clip of a Representative Foley spoof and showed how Magnify pipes it correctly into a Foley Comedy channel. An innovative slider rating system helps e... [More]
