Controlling Access

Q: “How can I change the way users access the site?”

You can change the requirements for viewing and submitting videos on the channel or for becoming a member by going into the admin navigation panel. You can adjust a number of options in the "User Registration' in the Members section of Admin. Click the Edit User Registration Options link and then use the drop down menus to make changes in these five categories:

  • Ask for birth date: is a birthdate required to register and if so, must a user be at least 13 or 18?
  • Registration Required: Must user register in order to view any part of the channel, to view videos, or not at all?
  • User Approval Required: Do you want to approve any new members?
  • Login Sidebar Text: What text do you want on the sidebar of the login page?
  • Allow Profile RSS Feed: Can members add RSS feeds from other sites, like livejournal, to their profile page
To control the requirements for posting content to your channel, you can go into the "content" tab of the admin interface and click "Adjust Submission and Review Rules". Here you can decide the whether content must first be approved by a site admin before being posted to the channel and also whether a user must be logged in to post content or if you would like only site admins to be able to post content.

Q: "How can I control user comments and reviews on my channel?"

To adjust the options over comments and reviews, go into the "community" tab of admin and then "Change Moderation Options". Here you can choose whether comments and reviews require approval before being posted.
