Organizing Content with Playlists

Q: “What's the difference between a tag-based playlist , a custom playlist and a search-based playlist?”

If you're an admin, you can create three different types of playlists. The first, a tag-based playlist, automatically includes all videos with a given tag. The second and most common, a custom playlist, includes videos that have been individually selected for the playlist. The third, a search based playlist, is similar in nature to the tag-based playlist, but will search meta-data beyond tags, including descrition text, titles and comments.

To use our example from above, if you were creating your Melting Glaciers playlist, you could create a tag-based playlist by listing specific tags to search for, like glacier or ice or Greenland, so any videos tagged in that way on your channel would be included in the playlist. Your other choice would be to go through the site and select specific videos that you want to promote in the playlist.

Q: “Why does my content administration page say that I have 5 playlists, but only 2 are listed in the playlist management page?”

If you're an admin, you'll see those built in playlists reflected in the total number of playlists listed on the content page, but you won't see their titles listed when you click view playlists because you can't edit them.
